Created shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic, Affirming Soul Candles emerged as a response to the collective pain, grief, and uncertainty many of us experienced. As a social worker, I’ve witnessed firsthand the growing mental health crisis and the silent struggles so many people face. It’s often the ones we least expect—the ones who smile the brightest or stay the busiest—who carry hidden burdens. In my experience, those who are drawn to candles often seek comfort, calm, and peace. But many may also be battling mental illness, suicidal thoughts, domestic violence, low self-esteem, or using substances as a way to cope.
